This training course provides advanced knowledge of safeguarding and child protection and will further support you with the knowledge of how to recognise and know what to do if you believe that a child is at risk of harm or abuse.

This one day course is in line with Working Together to Safeguard Children (2018), Keeping Children Safe in Education (2021) and Ofsted’s Inspecting Safeguarding in Early Years, Education and Skills Settings (2019)

Session One - The first half of this training is a workshop on defendable decisions and critical thinking within the DSL role and is structured as follows:

  • The role of the DSL: why decision-making in schools is challenging
  • What is a ‘defensible decision’ and how can schools evidence these in practice?
  • Practical tools and tips to use in day to day practice

Session Two – delegates will cover and learn how to

  • Plan out their annual calendar: what to do and when to do it
  • Get the most out of training, development and information sharing
  • Look at opportunities to strengthen practice

All delegates receive a comprehensive handout and certificate of participation
