Over the last two years there has been so much change in safeguarding children legislation and guidance. Since the beginning of 2013, Working Together to Safeguard Children has been revised twice.
Keeping children safe in education has been revised four times (the most recent version published in the September 2016) and new legislation has resulted in two major duties been placed on educators, from the Counter Terrorism and Security Act and the Serious Crime Act.
Further guidance has been published in 2015 about Information Sharing and What to do when you’re worried a child has been abused.
Ofsted introduced the Common Inspection Framework in September 2015 and a new version of Inspecting safeguarding in early years, education and skills has also been published.
Safeguarding children will continue to be at the heart of all future Ofsted inspections. You therefore need to be sure that you are complying with safeguarding requirements and also be able to evidence everything you and your team are doing to keep children safe.
Undertaking this audit will give you a chance to practice presenting information to a 3rd party and help prepare you for your next inspection. It can be used as an opportunity for you to start to think about what systems you have in place and what gaps exist. Your safeguarding systems will be scrutinised and support will be offered to create an improvement plan that can be used as part of your self-evaluation process.
Please feel free to contact me if you would like to arrange an in house safeguarding audit (approximately 2 hours). I will meet with Head teachers, Designated safeguarding leads, managers, proprietors etc and give compliance advice and practical support on the safeguarding systems you need to have in place.
