Learning outcomes:

  • Understand how to implement the four stages of Safer Recruitment: Deter, Reject, Detect and Prevent. help participants review their own organisations recruitment policies and practices with a view to making them safer Create systems to continually assess the ‘suitability’ of staff /volunteers/carers

  • Discuss the lessons from research, inquiries and serious case reviews and the implications for the protection of children

  • Understand safer recruitment and the wider context of safeguarding • Think about how abusers operate within organisations

  • Set and maintain acceptable standards of behaviour by effectively implementing a ‘code of conduct’ policy for staff

Safer Recruitment

About the course

This training will give education staff recruiters the information they need to recruit safely and comply with relevant statutory guidance. It is suitable for all in the education sector who are Involved in staff recruitment and selection.

Although current guidance states ‘at least one member of [the selection] panel [must have] completed safer recruitment training’, it is helpful to have more than one person, and to include others involved in the recruitment process, including administrative staff. The more knowledgeable the whole recruitment team become, the safer children are.
